Here are some voices about the earlier “Perfect Day/Lovestruck” (Kite Recordings 2003) release:
Five Swedes in search of the perfect pop song, and they have actually found it. ‘Perfect Day’ is a smashing Power Pop hit which I have heard nothing like since Paul Collins’ ‘The Kids are the Same’. Moloko-plus.de This kind of choruses sticks like glue and you just can’t get enough. Pelle Gustafsson talking about “Lovestruck” on National Swedish Radio P3 Solid power-pop akin to bands like David & the Citizens… It’s a Trap, Feb 2004 The Higher Elevations are still awaiting the big break through – and why shouldn’t it come this year? Anna Sims, www.musiklandet.se “The Higher Elevations are about realising the idea of the perfect pop song” says lead singer Niklas Gustafsson, adding: “Songs can mean so much. It’s not a banal thing, it is the soundtrack to your life.” That is the very same vision every classic band in rock history has shared – Velvet Underground, Television, The Smiths, The Only Ones. The Higher Elevations formed in 2001 and has continuously grown the reputation as being one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from Sweden. The high standard of their songs and performances are truly outstanding. The debut single “Perfect Day/Lovestruck” was highly praised by the small amount of people that actually got a chance to hear it. The single also secured some radio play on college stations in Canada as well as Germany. The Lovestruck EP is the last release where Tomas Lindberg, co-founder of the group participates, leaving the band early this summer. The Higher Elevations are currently putting the final touches to their debut album due for November release on Little Teddy. The band has also recorded a splendid version of “The Engine Driver Song” for Beautiful Music’s upcoming Television Personalities tribute album If I Could Write Poetry. Stay tuned. There is a lot more beautiful music to come. THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS |
